Over the last week or so I have received over 1500 spam comments, mostly pushing "poker" and "sex" related products or promotions. Everyday I open up my Thunderbird, and find another 200 emails sitting my JezzJournal Moderation folder, waiting for me to delete them. Thank goodness for Kitten's Spaminator, because it caught every single one of these spam comments, except for about 10.
Looking through my raw access logs, I've noticed that the most 404 errors my site come from robot.txt. Do I need to have a robot.txt file on my server to determine which bots are able to come and archive or access my site? What would you recommend? Would this have any effect on my comment spam numbers? Lots of questions, I know, but I would love the help if you can.
Has anyone else been having a large amount of spam comments thrown at their site lately, or am I just starting to get what everyone else has been used to? God, it's annoying. Thankfully, WordPress has great filters, and a good plugin database to prevent these annoying bastards from commenting.
