scootr.ca is operated by Jeremy Shields, a Canadian developer, tech enthusiast, and podcast host. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit this site, how it is used, and what choices you have.
What We Collect
Automatically collected information
When you visit scootr.ca, our hosting provider (Vercel) and our self-hosted analytics automatically record certain information, including:
- Your IP address (anonymized)
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited and time spent on site
- Referring website or search terms
- General geographic location (country/city level)
- How you interact with pages (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling) via session replay and heatmaps
This information is collected through server logs and our own analytics instance (Umami, running on infrastructure we control). It is not linked to your identity.
Embedded content
Some pages on scootr.ca may include embedded content from third-party services such as Spotify. Embedded content behaves as if you visited those services directly, and those services may collect data about you according to their own privacy policies.
How We Use Your Information
The information collected is used to:
- Understand how visitors find and use the site
- Identify popular content and improve future posts
- Monitor for technical errors or performance issues
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. We have no user accounts, contact forms, or email subscriptions — no personal information is submitted to us directly.
Cookies
scootr.ca's self-hosted analytics may use minimal local identifiers to distinguish visitor sessions and understand site traffic patterns. None of this personally identifies you, and it is never shared with Google, Vercel, or any other third party.
Most browsers allow you to manage or disable cookies and similar storage through their settings.
Self-Hosted Analytics
Unlike most sites, scootr.ca does not send visitor analytics to a third party. We run our own instance of Umami, an open-source analytics tool, on infrastructure we control (Railway). It collects anonymized usage data (see "Automatically collected information" above) plus session replay and heatmap data showing how visitors interact with pages, so we can understand and improve the site. This data never leaves our own infrastructure and is not shared with Google, Vercel, or any other company.
Third-Party Services
Vercel (Hosting)
scootr.ca is hosted on Vercel. Vercel automatically collects standard request/server log data (such as IP address, request timestamps, and general performance metrics) as part of operating the site. You can review Vercel's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
Spotify
Some pages may include embedded Spotify players. If you interact with embedded Spotify content, Spotify may collect data in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
External links and platforms
scootr.ca links to external platforms including GitHub, Discord, YouTube, Twitch, Bluesky, Instagram, and Apple Podcasts. These platforms operate independently and have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their data practices.
Data Retention
Vercel retains server/request logs in accordance with their standard policies, and may process this data on servers outside of Canada, including the United States. Analytics data on our self-hosted Umami instance is retained indefinitely unless manually cleared — since it stays on our own infrastructure, we control this directly rather than relying on a third party's retention policy. We do not independently store any personal data about visitors.
Your Rights
You have the right to know what information is collected about you and to request its deletion from third-party services we use. To ask questions or make a request, contact us at jeremy@scootr.ca.
Children's Privacy
scootr.ca is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
